Customers of UV power, an Australian couple in their retirement years enjoy their solar battery system after making the most of the Queensland Battery Booster Rebate Scheme.

Registering for the Queensland Battery Booster Program

The Queensland Battery Booster program is an initiative by the Queensland Government aimed at providing rebates to eligible Queenslanders to purchase and install household solar battery systems to use with new or existing rooftop solar systems.

The program is designed to lower energy bills and help alleviate cost of living pressures for Queenslanders. Here's how you can apply for the program:

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Battery Booster program, Queensland households must meet the following criteria:

  • Maximum Income: Applicants must have a combined annual household taxable income of $180,000 or less.
  • Battery Purchase Date: Home battery systems will only be eligible if purchased when the program is open and after the applicant has received conditional approval as part of the application process.
  • Minimum Battery System Size: The minimum 6 kilowatt hour (kWh) battery needs to be purchased, but in most cases we recommend a minimum of 10kwh. The average house in Brisbane consumes approximately 12.8kwh from sunset to sunrise. We recommend looking at your average consumption data or sending us a power bill for analysis.
  • Approved Battery System: Only battery systems on the list are eligible for the rebate. The approved list is based upon the Clean Energy Council Approved list, but with batteries, its buyer beware. We will only sell batteries from manufacturers and suppliers we know well and have had long term relationships with. There are many new products on the list which we will not install due to either quality issues, design deficiencies, or companies without Australian after sales service.
  • Minimum Solar PV System Size: Households must have at least a 5kW solar PV system (new or existing). Once again we do not recommend a 5kw system for a new solar system. In most cases it's too small, and if you aim to cover your electricity consumption we will tailor a size to suit your needs.
  • Approved Installer: UV Power is an approved Installer and will also help you through the registration and application process. We are currently installing 200 Solar and battery systems at Carseldine Village with the Queensland Government with Thompsons Sustainable Homes and Vantage Builders.
What rebate cost should I expect?

The rebate provided by the Queensland government applies to both existing solar systems and Queenslanders looking to install new solar battery systems. The rebate is means tested and you will receive $4000 if your household income is under $70k or $3000 if your household income is under $180k.

For existing solar systems, the rebate can be utilised to expand your setup by adding a battery storage system, allowing homeowners to store excess solar energy for use during peak times or at night. To assess this we will chat with you about your existing system and assess your power bills to ensure you choose the correct size to meet your needs.

For those looking to install new solar battery systems, the rebate serves as a financial incentive to invest in renewable energy and reduce reliance on the grid. Most importantly if designed correctly and managed well you can be close to energy self sufficient. Making the correct choices now will give you long lasting financial benefits for years to come.

We recommend you do not choose the basic minimum system for the rebate, but make your choice on your current power usage, and any potential electrical upgrades to your home such as additional air conditioning or an Electric Car (EV).

How to Apply
Being ready to register

When checking your eligibility for the Battery Booster rebate program in Queensland, it's essential for residents to have certain information readily available. This includes typical details such as their full address, contact information, and the property's specific details.

For those with an existing solar or solar battery system, knowing the system's make, model, and installation date is important. However, if these details are unknown, UV Power can assist in determining these specifics, ensuring a stress-free process.

To give us the best opportunity to suggest the system to suit your needs we will require information such as your power bill and details of your current system. If you’re unsure of these details we suggest looking at the sticker on the side of the inverter. Take a photo of the sticker for now until a member of the UV Power team can assist you in gathering the right details.
